George R.R. Martin Talks Status of ‘Game of Thrones’ Projects During Strikes

As the strikes in Hollywood continue to disrupt the entertainment industry, legendary author and “Game of Thrones” creator George R.R. Martin has shared updates on the status of his projects amid the current situation. Writing on his website, Martin expressed his gratitude for keeping busy during these uncertain times.

Having been a member of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) since 1986 and experienced several strikes over the years, Martin acknowledged the significance of this year’s strike, deeming it the most crucial of his lifetime. While praising the unity between the writers and actors guilds, he shed light on the ongoing projects he’s involved in.

“Dark Winds,” an AMC series executive-produced by Martin, has completed production for its second season and is set to return to TV on July 30. However, due to the strike, none of the stars or writers associated with the show will participate in promotional activities.

Turning to HBO’s highly anticipated prequel, “House of the Dragon,” Martin confirmed that filming is underway in the United Kingdom, with the second season reportedly halfway through production. He emphasized that all the scripts for the show’s second season were completed before the WGA strike began, and no further writing has taken place since then.

Martin also mentioned that his deal with HBO was suspended on June 1, a common occurrence for many high-profile writers and creators during the strike. Nevertheless, he assured his fans that he still has plenty to keep him occupied during this period.

In addition to his television projects, Martin revealed that he is working on the stage play “The Iron Throne,” a project that has been in development for several years. He is also dedicating time to writing several books, including “The Winds of Winter,” a highly anticipated installment in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy series, which is the foundation of the immensely popular “Game of Thrones.”

Despite his own professional obligations, Martin acknowledged the importance of the strikes for the entry-level writers, aspiring actors, and other industry hopefuls looking to break into the business. He emphasized that the strike aims to protect the rights and interests of all individuals working behind the scenes and those at the beginning of their careers.

As Hollywood continues to navigate the complexities of the strikes, George R.R. Martin remains committed to his creative endeavors and looks forward to delivering more captivating stories to his fans. With his dedication to his craft and support for his colleagues, Martin’s impact on the entertainment world continues to be felt far and wide.
